Gaming Supplier Secures License in the United Arab Emirates

A major international gaming technology provider has been authorized to operate as a vendor in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The license was issued by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), the federal body responsible for overseeing the nascent commercial gaming sector in the country.

The GCGRA’s website indicates that a limited number of gaming-related vendor licenses have been granted to date.

Growing Gaming Sector in the UAE

This development follows similar approvals granted to other prominent companies in the gaming industry, including equipment manufacturers and testing laboratories. These licenses are a key step in establishing a regulated gaming environment within the UAE.

The GCGRA was established in September 2023 and is led by Jim Murren, formerly of MGM Resorts International.

Casino Development Underway

Currently, only one casino operator is licensed in the UAE: Wynn Resorts Ltd. They are actively developing the Wynn Al Marjan Island casino resort in Ras Al Khaimah, with a planned pre-opening slated for early 2027.

Industry Consolidation

In related news, the gaming technology provider is in the process of being acquired by funds managed by affiliates of a private equity firm. Following the completion of this sale, the company will focus exclusively on lottery services and operate under a new name.

The acquiring funds are also set to acquire another gaming technology supplier. The combined entity will be led by a former executive from another gaming company.
