A significant development is underway in Ras Al Khaimah, with plans for a multi-billion dollar resort aimed at attracting a global audience, particularly those considered “ultra high net-worth” individuals. This ambitious project follows the acquisition of a gaming license from authorities within the UAE.
The resort, valued at $3.8 billion and situated on Al Marjan Island, is projected to open in 2027. Developers anticipate it will tap into the existing demand for gaming within the UAE’s large expatriate community, while also drawing in international visitors seeking high-end gaming experiences.
The five-star resort will boast:
The project is expected to generate substantial economic benefits for Ras Al Khaimah, stimulating foreign investment and creating thousands of jobs. Local tourism officials have previously highlighted the potential for this development to act as a major catalyst for the emirate’s tourism sector.
Established last year, the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) oversees and regulates commercial gaming activities within the UAE. This includes lottery, internet gaming, sports wagering, and integrated gaming resorts.
“Commercial gaming” is defined as any game of chance, or a combination of chance and skill, where money is wagered with the aim of winning a sum of money or other valuable items.
The GCGRA is focused on creating a well-regulated gaming environment, with a framework designed to protect consumers and stakeholders. Engaging in commercial gaming activities without the GCGRA’s approval is illegal and subject to penalties. Similarly, consumers participating through unlicensed operators also face legal consequences.
