UAE Lottery Eyes Retail Expansion After Online Launch

The UAE’s national lottery is exploring the possibility of selling tickets in physical stores across the Emirates, following its initial launch as an online-only platform.

Launched in December, the weekly draw has quickly gained traction, attracting a substantial user base. Now, discussions are underway to broaden accessibility through retail partnerships.

Retail Partnerships on the Horizon

Officials have expressed a strong interest in collaborating with both large corporations and independent retailers to maximize the lottery’s reach. The goal is to make tickets readily available in a variety of locations, potentially starting as early as this summer.

“We are actively seeking partnerships to ensure widespread availability of our products,” a representative stated.

Regulatory Framework and Jackpot Aspirations

The lottery received the green light from the UAE’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority, established to oversee the national lottery and commercial gaming activities. With approximately 500,000 registered users already, the lottery boasts a substantial weekly top prize.

Looking ahead, there are ambitions to introduce even larger jackpots, mirroring the substantial prizes seen in other international lotteries.

Prize Structures and Odds

Currently, the main draw tickets are priced at AED50. While no one has yet matched all seven numbers, several players have won significant prizes by matching six or five numbers.

The odds of winning the top prize are considerable, comparable to flipping a coin and getting heads 23 consecutive times.

Financial Transparency and Revenue Allocation

While specific profit margins remain undisclosed, a portion of the lottery’s earnings is allocated to the regulatory authority. The focus remains on providing a compelling and sustainable gaming experience.

In other national lotteries, revenue is typically distributed among government duties, retailer commissions, and operator costs and profits.
